Geonasium Model

Australia is in a
health emergency.

We're spending more time indoors, more isolated, and less active than any generation before us, and it's destroying our bodies and minds.

93%
We Aren't Outside Enough
The average person spends 93% of their life indoors, away from the sunlight, fresh air, and natural movement that support physical and mental health.
2 in 3
Overweight and Obesity Crisis
2 in 3 Australian adults now live with overweight or obesity, the single largest contributor to disease burden in the country at 8.3% of total burden (ABS; AIHW 2024).
78%
We Simply Aren't Moving
78% of Australian adults aged 18 to 64 fail to meet both aerobic and muscle-strengthening physical activity guidelines (AIHW/ABS National Health Survey 2024).
1 in 5
Mental Health in Crisis
1 in 5 Australians experienced a mental disorder in the past 12 months. 1 in 7 are now prescribed antidepressants. Mental ill-health costs the economy up to $70 billion per year.
1 in 6
The Loneliness Epidemic
1 in 6 Australians often feel lonely, up from 1 in 8 in 2009. Loneliness costs the healthcare system $2.7 billion annually in GP and hospital visits alone (HILDA; MJA 2024).
1.5M
The Chronic Disease Bill
1.5 million Australians are registered with diabetes, 87% with Type 2, a condition directly linked to inactivity. Projected CVD cost in Type 2 alone: $18.66 billion to 2031 (AIHW).

Fitness where
people already are.

GeoFenced Workouts

Programs are geographically locked to real outdoor locations, pulling people outside to explore their community. A 20.5-minute park visit improves life satisfaction by 64% (Journal of Environmental Health Research).

Native Workouts

Every program is purpose-built for its specific location using stairs, hills, benches, equipment, and natural terrain. Existing public infrastructure, maximised at no additional cost to council.

Community Leaderboards and Accountability

Monthly leaderboards, social sharing, and rewards connect participants to their local community, sustain participation, and cut dropout rates. Isolation out, belonging in.

Data and Reporting Built for Government

Every session generates structured data aligned with AIHW benchmarks. Partners receive quarterly impact reports formatted for Annual Reports, funding submissions, and grant acquittals.

The strongest mental health
evidence in a generation.

Two landmark meta-analyses confirm it: exercise outperforms antidepressants and therapy for treating depression and anxiety. The UK has already changed its clinical guidelines. Australia and New Zealand have not. Yet.

2x
the antidepressant effect size
The BMJ's 2024 analysis of 218 trials and 14,170 participants found walking or jogging produced an effect size of 0.62 against depression. The landmark Lancet antidepressant meta-analysis found 0.30. Exercise delivers roughly double the effect (Noetel et al. BMJ 2024; Cipriani et al. Lancet 2018).
The largest evidence base ever assembled
A 2023 umbrella review in the British Journal of Sports Medicine synthesised 1,039 trials with 128,119 participants: physical activity produced medium effects on depression, anxiety, and distress (Singh et al. BJSM 2023).
The UK has already acted
NICE guideline NG222 formally added exercise to the first-line treatment menu for depression in 2022. NHS Social Prescribing now generates 1.3 million GP referrals per year into community physical activity.
The dose is within everyone's reach
Just 1.25 hours of exercise per week cuts depression risk by 18%, with benefits peaking around 2.5 hours (JAMA Psychiatry 2022). Geonasium programs are structured to hit exactly this therapeutic dose.
The opportunity for Australia and NZ
1 in 7 Australians are prescribed antidepressants and the MJA has called for urgent prescribing reform. Governments that act early will lead. Geonasium is positioned to be the delivery partner.

"Geonasium has an extraordinary ability to bring communities together through movement." Health and Wellbeing Partner

Geonasium was founded by Isaac Calvert after 18 years in health and fitness, watching people transform when given access to the right support. Recognising that the people who need fitness most are the least able to access private facilities, Geonasium was built to remove every barrier: cost, location, equipment, and time.

Our mission: to solve the world's mental and physical health crisis by making outdoor exercise easy and accessible for everyone, using the world's greatest gym, which is already everywhere: the outdoors.

Programs operate across metropolitan and regional Australia, with partnership models available at suburb, council, regional, and state level, and an expansion pathway into New Zealand and Australasia.
